Thinking about some new years resolutions. Here are a few helpful hints:

1. Drink more water- 2L per day will improve your bowels skin and waste line. Make it a priority

2. Chromium to help with those sugar cravings. 200micrograms with food.

3. Stop alcohol for 1 month and take some milk thistle to help support your liver

Stay tunes for other ideas for your new years!

Happy New Year from A New Leaf Naturopathic Clinic....

Time for us all to start a New Year Cleanse. This does not have to be complicated, you can decide what you would like to do. Great options are cutting out Alcohol and Sugar for the month. or..... maybe it will be to eat only whole foods and drink more for the month.

Remember that cleansing DOES NOT mean fasting, so make sure you are getting plenty of protein, fats, and complex carbohydrates into your diet to allow your body to heal and function optionally.

Book an appointment if you would like a cleasne that  caters to your needs for the New Year!

PRESCRIBING RIGHTS FOR NATUROPATHIC PHYSICIANS:

Dr. Alison Vandekerkhove and Dr. Cathryn Coe are  now licensed to prescribe scheduled drug medications. This prescriptive authority allows patients of Naturopathic doctors access to controlled medicines that are dispensed through pharmacies. This service will be important for many of the people in our community who use Naturopathic doctors for their primary care, as they do not have a family medical doctor. Naturopathic Physicians who are licensed to prescribe will not be able to prescribe federally controlled substances such as opiates, benzodiazepines, and amphetamines.

30 DAY CHALLENGE!!!

We have finished our 30day challenge!!! It went really well and will think about doing it again in January. For all those who participated --Well done and keep up the good work. I think my next 30 day challenge should be about writing- as I seem to procrastinate this!!!!!!

Alison: Week one has passed. Confessions from the staff. Elaine and I have went to each Yoga class. Feeling a little sore, but have so much energy at the end of the day! And to treat myself for finishing week one I rewarded myself with a new Lululemon rain coat ... a needed neccesity!!

Paula ... Hmm Week one went fairly smoothly, bootcamp, walking and no sandwiches :) Week 2 - It has started out a little bleek, My first excuse of month, at 5:30am "I'm too tired to get of out of bed" ... SNOOZE BUTTON somehow the 9 minute snooze turned into an hour later....Oops! Ok so I can still make it up tonight right?! A walking I will go!! Mondays still suck! I will start all over again Tuesday.....

Elaine: Today is day 8 and I'm finally starting to get into the swing of things.  Today I feel not too sore and a bit more rested.  My challenge began as 5 days of yoga and 3 days of running with my dog.  Well....the competitive side of me won out and I am doing 7 days a week yoga with Alison and cut my running to 2 (ish) days per week.  I did ok until I did a run or two at the end of the week and found it very exhausting. Week 2 here we come!

Sally, Cathryn, and Judith will catch you up tomorrow on their progress!

It has begun!!! Day 3 at the clinic. Everyone so far is right on track.

Some patients had issues opening up the newsletter-- we are looking into this and will have it fixed shortly. If you email us and let us know we will resend to you.

If you want to participate in the 30 day Challenge- email us and let us know what you are doing. At the end of the challenge we will draw for prizes!!

Good luck and have fun !!

What are the benefits of saliva hormone testing?

Saliva hormone testing is most useful for uncovering hormone imbalance. For example: discovering a woman has insufficient progesterone to balance high estradiol levels or; that high cortisol levels are interfering with the action of progesterone and testosterone. Once a hormone imbalance has been uncovered, nutritional or bio-identical hormone therapy can be instituted.

Saliva testing can also be used to approximate whether hormone levels are too high or too low as a result of supplementation, but the actual dosage adjustment will still be symptom driven. In other words, if hormone levels are above range, a dosage reduction may be indicated, but the practitioner must make his or her best estimation as to the dosage adjustment needed, and carefully monitor patient symptoms to ensure that adjustments are reasonable.

Saliva collection is painless and more convenient for the patient, particularly when multiple samples are required.
